The Membership Recruiting and Retention Committee is sponsoring this blog to provide a means of discussing the challenges facing ESP Chapters with retaining membership and recruiting new members. With the current budget restraints facing Extension, many states have seen a significant decline in the number of Extension personnel and as a result have seen membership numbers decline. The blog will facilitate discussion and sharing of successes and challenges between chapters struggling to maintain numbers.
The following are point suggested for discussion:
- In light of retirements, buyouts and reorganizations how can we grow a new generation of Extension professionals who are excited about and committed to Epsilon Sigma Phi, the extension professional's organization?
- How has your state dealt with low or declining membership?
- Have you explored opportunities to work with other Extension Associations? For example, could more/some of the committees be combined? How about officers?
